How To Whitewash Your Hardwood Floors

Hardwood floors are a fantastic investment in any home or office. They give a timelessly elegant finish to your property, while also providing solid insulation, soundproofing and protection against droughts. Hardwood floors are incredibly durable and can last many decades, so long as they are correctly maintained. However, it is only natural to grow tired of the appearance of your dining room, living area, or wherever you have laid your hardwood floors, after a few years. DIY interior projects are a brilliant and fulfilling way of making sure that you enjoy every second that you and your family and guests spend in your home, or business setting, so why not try to do something different with your hardwood floors?

Whitewashing your hardwood floors is a simple way to rejuvenate your space and give it a whole new look on a low budget. Follow this three-step guide to get your space looking fresh and brand new in no time.

Step one: Prepare the floor

Sand off all varnish and wax using sandpaper until your hardwood floors are completely bare. Unless this step is completed successfully, the floors will not accept the paint. Be prepared to sweep and vacuum relentlessly to collect all of the dust that will gather.

Step two: Choose good quality whitewash

Whitewash, or ‘lime paint’ is generally very low cost, but you should make sure to purchase it from a name that you can trust.

Step three: Paint your floors carefully

Carefully paint your hardwood floorboards one small area at a time to create an even and smooth finish. When you have finished painting, add some hardwood wax to seal in the paint and allow it to dry.

Et voila! Your newly whitewashed floors will give your chosen space a beautiful, chic and trendy vibe that is easy to maintain and will impress your visitors.
