Dogs and Hardwood Floors

If you love dogs, you know that there are certain sacrifices you need to make in order to own one. You need to have the time to commit to it and rearrange certain aspects of your lifestyle to fit it in. For example, if you go on vacation, you need to go to a dog friendly place, or else search for a reliable dog sitter for a certain amount of time.

There are also certain sacrifices you need to make in your home. If your furry friend sheds like most breeds, then you need to be prepared for hair to get on your furniture and clothing. It is a small price to pay for the unconditional love you get from a dog, but it can be an irritating aspect of being a pet owner too.

Thankfully, if you are a fan of hardwood flooring you don’t have to sacrifice a beautifully finished floor in order to accommodate your four-legged pal. Yes, dogs and hardwood floors don’t seem like a match made in heaven, but there are ways to get around this.

For some dogs and hardwood floors there can be challenges. For example puppies can barely walk on any floor when they are learning and hardwood can be particularly slippery. It can also be difficult to grip for older dogs.

However, you can have your hardwood flooring finished with a special type of wax designed for pets. This offers better grip for your dog along with protection for your hardwood floors. You could also get booties for your dog with grips on them to minimize slipping and injury further, but you will be surprised at how effective a pet-friendly wax finish can be, allowing your dogs and hardwood floors to live in harmony.
